AQUA PHARMACEUTICALS ENTERS INTO A PROMOTION AGREEMENT WITH ALLERGAN, INC. FOR FLUOROPLEX® IN THE UNITED STATES
Malvern, Pennsylvania (March 3, 2009) - Aqua Pharmaceuticals today announced that it has entered into an agreement with Allergan, Inc. to promote Allergan's Fluoroplex® (fluorouracil) 1.0% topical cream. Fluoroplex® is indicated for the treatment of multiple actinic (solar) keratoses (small red or skin-color growths) that appear as a result of overexposure to the sun. Actinic (solar) keratoses are pre-cancerous lesions located on sun-exposed areas of the skin. The terms of the agreement are not disclosed.
"We are pleased to partner with Allergan, a premier, global multi-specialty health care company with significant expertise in skin care and a broad portfolio of skin care products," said Jay Gooding, Aqua's Chief Executive Officer. "We look forward to re-invigorating this important treatment option with healthcare providers and expanding awareness of the benefits of Fluoroplex® in preserving and protecting skin health from sun damage."
Aqua's dedicated sales force will concentrate its efforts on selling to physicians who see patients with actinic (solar) keratoses. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, it is estimated that millions of Americans have actinic (solar) keratoses, and the number continues to grow as the population ages. The occurrence of actinic (solar) keratoses is rather common and is ranked as one of the most frequent reasons people consult with a dermatologist or skin care health professional.
Important Safety Information
Fluoroplex® should not be used by women who are or may become pregnant. This product should not be used by patients who are allergic to any of its ingredients. There exists the potential for a delayed hypersensitivity reaction to fluorouracil. Patch testing to prove hypersensitivity may be inconclusive. If an occlusive dressing is used, there may be an increase in the incidence of inflammatory reactions in the adjacent normal skin. The patient should avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight or other forms of ultraviolet irradiation during treatment with Fluoroplex® topical cream, as the intensity of the reaction may be increased. Pain, pruritus, burning, irritation, inflammation, allergic contact dermatitis and telangiectasia have been reported. Occasionally, hyperpigmentation and scarring have also been reported.
